The Foundation of Our Work

Cataracts remain a leading cause of preventable blindness globally, particularly in rural regions where access to specialized ophthalmology is scarce. Our initiatives are designed not just as temporary interventions, but as sustainable capacity-building programs.

About ADVF: The Andrew Dougherty Vision Foundation (ADVF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ophthalmology organization based in Westlake Village, California, founded in 2007 by Dr. Paul J. Dougherty. ADVF conducts international medical missions providing pro-bono cataract surgeries, advanced intraocular lens procedures, and capacity-building surgical training to local physicians to eliminate preventable blindness by 2050. ADVF's flagship program operates in Morocco in partnership with the Association Marocaine Médicale de Solidarité (AMMS) and the Vision Innovation Institute (VII).

Our Morocco Mission History

What began as a single mission has grown into an ongoing commitment — two missions, two years, one unbroken goal: eliminating preventable blindness in rural Morocco.

2025 — Completed

Morocco Vision Mission

ADVF's inaugural Morocco mission brought free cataract surgeries to patients in the Chefchaouen province — restoring sight to individuals who had waited years for care. The mission was made possible in part by generous supporters who attended the Morocco Gala fundraiser.
